Why I returned to fake currency business -Suspect

The Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Zone 2 police command, Lagos has arrested a 45-year-old man for allegedly producing fake Nigerian and foreign currencies. Ayodabo (other names withheld) was alleged to have produced thousands of the currencies which are already in circulation.
Ayodabo, according to investigation, had been arrested twice and was on bail before he was caught again.

He was picked up again when detectives got wind that he had been granted bail and back to business.
At the police station, Ayodabo lamented that he had initially sworn to change, but when he met an old friend who offered him good money, he decided to go back to his criminal trade.
"It is the devil that pushed me into it. I have spent a lot of money paying lawyers to defend me. I have two cases in court and it has not been easy. This was why I allowed the devil to get me for the third time.

"On his modus operandi, the suspect said all he needed was a printing machine and a special paper that has the same texture as money. All you need is to get the original and print it out. We also have a special stamp that will be used. It is very easy and can be used in the open market," Ayodabo said.
The suspect claimed that he used to be a butcher until he met one Onyeka. "I was a butcher till I met Onyeka. He was the one who told me it is a better way of making money and it actually worked.
"I am sorry and if given another chance, I will change for good. We only use to defraud people and sometimes we would use it in the open market," he said.

Confirming the arrest, the command's spokesman, Mr. Gbenga Adeoye, a Chief Superintendent, said Ayodabo falls into the category of residual criminals.

"He was first arrested by the Lagos State Criminal Investigative Department (SCID), Panti, Lagos in 2012 and charged to court. Shortly after he was granted bail, he went back to the same crime and was picked up by detectives at SARS Ikeja in 2014. It is unfortunate that as soon as he got bail again, he went back to the same crime. He is actually awaiting trial in two courts. He will soon be arraigned for the third time," he said.
Adeoye warned that the command will stop at nothing in fishing out anyone who takes delight in deceiving the public.
