Another suspected ritual killers’ den uncovered in Lagos

Two people on Wednesday were killed by an irate mob in the Mushin area of Lagos State over suspicion of involvement in kidnappings and ritual killings.

PUNCH Metro learnt that while one was butchered and set ablaze on the road, the other, who had been beaten to a stupor, died at the police station after rescue.

The incident happened at Challenge bus stop, Mushin.
On August 9, two people were set ablaze by a mob in the Obadeyi-Ijaiye end of the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway for allegedly operating a ritual den in the community.

On August 11, a man was also killed at the Ile Zik bus stop, Ikeja Along end of the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, over a similar allegation.

Our correspondent gathered that the lynching of the two suspects in Mushin started after a vulcaniser sighted a ‘mad’ man discussing with another person in a tunnel at the Challenge bus stop around 6am.
The vulcaniser was said to have raised the alarm as residents gathered around the scene.
However, only the ‘mad’ man was seen, as his interlocutor had fled.

The ‘mad’ man, who was tortured by the residents, allegedly confessed that his gang had been operating in the tunnel for the past three months.

Some members of the Oodua People’s Congress were said to have led a search team into the tunnel and found hundreds of syringes. The tunnel reportedly linked different parts of the community.

When our correspondent visited the scene, some of the syringes allegedly used by the suspects were seen on the ground.

A resident, Mr. Sulaiman Adio, said the ‘mad’ man disguised as a woman when he was first sighted by the vulcaniser.

He said, “When the youths of the community tore his clothes, they discovered that he was actually a man. He was wearing a woman’s bra and wig to disguise. The discovery came to us as a surprise and the policemen came and took him to their station at Olosan.”

PUNCH Metro learnt that the police, after rescuing the suspect, smoked the tunnel around 6.15am and a suspected ritual killer came out.

He was reportedly hijacked by the youths, beaten and set ablaze.
The mob was later dispersed by some soldiers.

A woman, who identified herself as Lady Gold, said four Automated Teller Machine cards and three phones were recovered from the ‘mad’ man.

“We don’t know that we are living in the midst of ritual killers. The state government should act fast on the ritual killers’ dens discovered across the state.

“The ‘mad’ man told us before the police took him away that they used the syringes to incapacitate victims they dragged into the tunnel before butchering them,” she said.
A source at the Olosan Police Station confided in our correspondent that one of the suspects brought to the station died due to the severity of his injuries.

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fatai Owoseni, who condemned the resort to jungle justice by residents, said five suspects had been arrested for taking the law into their own hands.

The CP said there were three suspected kidnappers involved in the actual incident, adding that they were arrested with ATM cards and mobile phones.

He said, “One of the suspects was lynched, but the other two are in custody. Five suspects, who took part in the indecent act of jungle justice, were also arrested.”

Evans faces murder, armed robbery, kidnap charges today

Suspected billionaire kidnapper, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, aka Evans, will today be arraigned at the Lagos High Court in one of the 10 cases against him bordering on murder, armed robbery, kidnapping and other crimes.

This is coming at a time the fundamental human rights suit he filed against the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris, and three others, has been adjourned till September 5, 2017.

A police source revealed that investigation into crimes committed by Evans and members of his gang  had been concluded, ahead of the 90 days remand order granted by the Federal High Court.
He said with this, the police would arraign Evan and other members of his gang in 10 consolidated cases in Lagos and four in Edo State.

According to him, today’s charge against Evan would centre around the abduction of Mr. Donatus Dunu, from who the suspect collected N150 million ransom.

The case, it was gathered, comes up at the Ikeja High Court Court 18 before Justice Oshodi.
A competent police source told Daily Sun: “Evans and 15 of his gang members have so far been arrested and are facing 14 substantive cases (10 in Lagos and four in Edo State) carrying 52 charges of multiple murders, armed robberies, kidnappings, unlawful possession of firearms and unlawful possession of ammunition etc.

“The cases were filed by the Force Legal Department and Lagos State Department of Public Prosecutions (DPP) before the Lagos State High court, Federal High Court and Edo State High court Benin.

“Wednesday (today) case is one of the 14 cases Evans and five  of his gang members, who participated in Mr. Donatus Dunu’s kidnapping will be arraigned.  The remaining 13 cases relating to 13 more victims and other gang members of Evans not yet arraigned will come up on subsequent dates that the respective High Courts and Federal High Courts will schedule in Lagos and Edo states.”

Commenting on Evans’ planned arraignment, an authoritative police sources told Daily Sun: “You know that we asked the court to give us three months to conclude our investigation on him and the court granted us the request. Well, we have concluded our investigation and we are arraigning him on August 30, 2017 (today).”

When contacted, Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Olamide Famous-Cole, confirmed that Evans would be arraigned today.

In a related development, Justice Abdul-Azeez Anka of the Federal High Court, Lagos, has fixed September 5 to deliver judgment in the N300 million suit Evans slammed on the IGP  and others, challenging his continued detention, following fresh application filed by the  police boss and the Nigeria Police.

The court had earlier fixed yesterday  for the ruling, but when the case came up, the lawyer representing the IGP and the police, David Igbodo, while drawing the court’s attention to the application, said his clients deserved to be heard before any judgment was delivered in the matter.

According to him, one of the reasons for bringing the application was to urge the court to nullify the submissions of Henry Obiazi, who appeared for both the IGP and police on August 16, 2017, when the matter was fixed for judgment. He said the lawyer was not authorised by either the IGP or the police to represent them in court.

The lawyer, however, asked the court to set aside the ruling delivered at the last hearing when the matter was fixed for judgment without hearing the IGP and the police.
While urging the court to allow him move the application, Igbodo said other respondents in the matter had been served but the applicant rejected service.

In his response, Evans’ lawyer, Olukoya Ogungbeje, expressed his opposition to the hearing of the application, saying it was intended to arrest the court’s judgment.

He also faulted claims by Igbodo that he evaded service of the application on him.
According to him, there is nothing before the court anymore after parties have canvassed arguments and a date for judgment fixed. Ogungbeje’s opposition was, however, overruled by the judge on the ground that there was proof that he actually evaded service.

Hearing of the application has been fixed for September 5, 2017.
Evans was arrested three months ago by the Inspector-General of Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT) at Magodo area of the state.

He had been declared wanted for over five years for alleged high profile kidnapping including that of schoold children, and a famous pharmasist.
He was said to have demanded N500 million ransom and threaten to killed the pharmacist if the money was not paid.
“A senior police officer described Evans of the most briliant and notorious high profile kidnapper.”

Syndicate hypnotises food vendor, steals money, jewellery

The police in Lagos State have arrested two suspected members of a syndicate for allegedly hypnotising and stealing N120,000 from a food vendor, identified as Rukayat Aderinwale.

The suspects– Sunday Atanda and Fausat Tijani– were arrested by men of the Rapid Response Squad on Saturday.

According to a statement by the RRS, the suspects, who were arrested in Oshodi, were taking their victim to an unknown location when she regained consciousness and called for help.

The police said, “The syndicate was arrested after a failed bid to swindle a food vendor out of N120,000 and dispossess her of her jewellery in Oshodi.

“The victim was accosted and hypnotised by the five gang members and dispossessed her of a purse containing N120,000, and a mobile phone.

“They were taking her away when the lady regained consciousness and called out to RRS officers stationed nearby.

“The officers arrested Sunday Atanda, and Fausat Tijani, a 58-year-old pure water seller in Akala, Mushin, while three other members of the syndicate escaped.”

Atanda was said to have identified other members of the gang as one Kayode, Shina and Lateef.
The suspect, who claimed to have joined the gang in order to make a living, allegedly told the police that the group wanted to dispossess the mother of three of all valuables when they were arrested.

In a related development, two men – Chinasa Sunday and Osadebe Aigbe – were arrested on Thursday for allegedly defrauding a woman of N85,000.

The police were said to have been on the trail of the suspects after their victim, one Grace Enitan, reported at the RRS office that they defrauded her while she was heading to Ikeja in a cab.

“Investigations revealed that Sunday and Aigbe were involved in the fraud, while their ringleader, identified as Martin, is on the run.

“The victim identified the two suspects and their roles in the scam at the RRS office.
“Chinasa, while pleading for leniency, explained that he joined the syndicate after losing his job in February 2017.

“He explained that they picked up the suspect in Olowopopo Way, Ikeja, adding that his role was to monitor victims while the scam lasted,” the police said.

The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Olarinde Famous-Cole, said investigations were ongoing into the cases, adding that the police were on the trail of other members of the syndicates.

Owerri boils

Boy, 12, shot dead, 8 injured as traders, natives resist demolition of main market

Twelve-year-old Somtochukwu, the son of a petty trader in Owerri, was yesterday allegedly shot dead by soldiers brought in by the Imo State Government to provide security cover for the men it engaged to demolish the Owerri Main Market.

Several other people, including the former youth leader of Owerri, Leoard Ebubeagu and seven others, sustained bullet wounds as the Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha kept his promise to forcefully eject the traders at the ancestral market and part of the popular Ama Hausa quarters also along Douglas Road in the city.

Sunday Sun gathered that youths of Ohaji/Egbema were allegedly hired by the Deputy Chief of Staff (Operations), Mr. Kingsley Uju, to thwart the resistance of the youths of Owerri, who tried to stop the demolition of the market. It was further learnt that the hired youths allegedly looted the wares of the traders who could not remove their goods from their shops before the commencement of the demolition exercise.

Governor Okorocha had last Thursday issued a 24-hour-quit order to owners of shops in the market, popularly known as Ekeukwu Owere, to vacate the market or have their wares destroyed in the demolition exercise.

But, as early as 6 .30am, over 200 armed security agents from the Army, Department of State Services, Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Imo State Security Network and the Imo Community Watch, had already cordoned off Douglas Road where the market is located. Similarly, Mbaise Road, Emmanuel College junction and Fire Service Roundabout leading to Egbu/ Mbaise Road were equally manned by armed security agents.

The security agents had shot sporadically into the air supported by the Ohaji/Egbema youths, who carried cudgels in a bid to prevent the traders, especially women from retrieving their wares. The action of the youths from Ohaji/Egbema, with the support of the security agents caused a clash between them and the youths of Owerri town and the affected traders.

In the ensuing melee, Somtochukwu, who was trying to retrieve his mother’s wares was shot dead by one of the soldiers. Leonard Ebubeagu was shot on one of his legs and seven other persons also sustained gunshot wounds.

Ugo Mere, one of the youth leaders from Umuonyeche Owerri, told Sunday Sun: “By 6.30a.m (yesterday), we discovered that the police and other security agents who were armed had blocked all the access roads leading to Douglas Road.

We also noticed that about four bulldozers had arrived the market. Before we knew what was happening, the boys from Ohaji/Egbema had started smashing open the lock-up shops at the market including those at Rotibi Street across Douglas road but the Owerri youths had to repel them.

After awhile they reinforced and came back in larger numbers, accompanied by the armed security agents. It was in the resulting skirmish that one young boy, Somtochukwu, was shot dead instantly. Seven other persons sustained gunshot wounds including our former youth president Leonard Ebubeagu, who was shot on one of his legs.”

Also, lamenting the situation, Madam Abigail Nkwo, said that she only got to know about the sudden quit order late Friday night as she had been away for about two weeks.
“I lost all my goods because I deal in foodstuff and worst of all was that the army people would not allow anybody to get their items even when the demolition had not gotten to the place.

I don’t know what kind of government this is, a government that has been causing the people pain. I learnt that the governor said that he wants to expand the road and that is why he has decided to demolish the place,” she said and rhetorically asked, “Are we going to eat road?”

It was the same sad story for Jonas Eke who deals in clothing materials. He decried the activities of the government which he said no matter how well intentioned had robbed the people of their source of livelihood.

“I don’t understand what Okorocha wants us to do because right now, I have lost all the materials I have in my shop because before I came, they had broken it open and looted the goods and I had just restocked it. The governor said we should go to Egbeda, but that place is not even ready and now my shop has been demolished because it is located in one of the buildings that was first demolished by the bulldozers,” Eke lamented.

Meanwhile, the President General of the Owerri Community Assembly, Felix Ngoka, a knight in the Anglican Communion, described the demolition of the ancestral market of the Owerri people as an act of lawlessness, saying that the matter was already before the court of law which had earlier granted an injunction restraining the governor from interfering with the market until the substantive suit filed against the government was disposed of.

“The matter is still in court and the court gave an injunction restraining the government from interfering with the market, but what the governor has done today is nothing but lawlessness when the matter has not been determined by the court of law.

We are law abiding people and you saw how the governor used armed security agents and thugs to forcefully eject the people of Owerri from their ancestral market,” Ngoka said.

He added that the governor had earlier informed them that he wanted to modernize the market last year but we he was told that place is an ancestral market where the women of Owere sell their vegetables and other foodstuff, that it was the only market that Owerri people have, and that it had been existing for almost 200 years even before Nigeria became a country.

Recently, the governor, he said, had indicated that he wanted to build a modern school on the site of the market, stating that the traders should relocate to Ohii in Egbeada in Mbaitoli Local Government Area.

Ngoka further stated that they had suggested to the state governor a number of times to fence off the market from the road in order to reduce the traffic grid lock experienced on Douglas Road by street traders but that he had refused to do that because he has a special interest in the location of the market.

WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE

•    Mother of murdered  8-yr-old girl  wants fleeing ritualist, Ifeanyi Dike, caught by all means
One week after, the outrage sparked by the gruesome murder of eight-year old Victory Nmezu by a suspected ritualist continued to reverberate.

A concerned, conscientious and crossed public have continued to protest police’s complicity in the escape of Ifeanyi Dike, the suspect, right under the nose of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID), barely five hours after he was paraded at the headquarters of Rivers State Police Command, Moscow Road, Port Harcourt.

The circumstance of the escape has woven a web conspiracy around the Friday, August 18, 2017, tragedy, even as the distraught mother of the deceased is calling on the authority to bring her daughter’s killer to book, by all means.

On the day women and youths in the neighbourhood protested the escape of the suspect from Police custody, Saturday Sun was at the residence of the bereaved family, at No. 8 Eliozu Close in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The Nmezu compound was swarming with sympathisers dressed in black who rained curses on the family of the suspect and those that aided his escape from police custody.
In the throes of lamentation, Mrs Dike Lucy Nmezu, mother of the victim, had only one message for the authorities: “I want Ifeanyi, dead or alive, to face the wrath of the law.”

The case has far more complexities than it appears at face value. The deceased, the last child of the family was a pupil of Divine Heroes Academy where the suspect teaches besides being a part-time 200 Level Physics undergraduate of the University of Port Harcourt, Choba.
The victim and her alleged killer are kith and kin–the Nmezu and Dike families are related from the same village, Ochii Ogwa, in Mbaitolu Local Government Area of Imo State.

Black Friday

In Eliozu where the crime happened, the suspect and the victim live on the same street.
The grief-drunk mother obliged Saturday Sun with a poignant recollection of the tragedy of that Black Friday.

“On Friday afternoon, between 12 noon and 1 pm, I was in my shop with my daughter, Victory, and her elder sister.  I left both of them in the shop to go and see my customers within the neighbourhood. When I returned around 2 pm, I did not see Victory. Her elder sister told me she went to ease herself.

My shop is close to the road and there is no place for anyone to do pee. Her sister said she ‘crossed’ Victory to the house to ease herself. I told her it had taken some time and she should bring her back.  I felt she could have started playing with children in the compound and I did not want that.”
According to her, Victory’s elder sister returned alone. She said she did not see her sister. That was the beginning of the search for the missing girl.

“I was wondering how she could go to the house to ease herself and nobody would see her again. She did not return to the shop and nobody could even say he or she saw her. That was strange to me.”
It was at this point her elder sister ran to their uncle, Ifeanyi (the suspect) who also denied seeing her.  When she went to ask him a second time, his response was: “If you do not see Victory, won’t you go and rest?”

She continued: “I entered Ifeanyi’s compound because my daughter did not know any other place. I shouted her name several times, but there was no response. Victory was not the type of child that moved about indiscriminately. My children don’t go to people’s houses to play.  I didn’t bring them up like that.  It is either they are at home, or at the shop.

Victory only moved from our house to Ifeanyi’s house because we are related. I became confused and started jumping everywhere.  People in the neighbourhood were also worried and surprised. They joined me in the search. We searched and searched. I did not believe that it was happening real to me.
“By this time, my husband had come back. He couldn’t understand what was happening; that we were looking for Victory?”

She went back to Ifeanyi’s compound and there, she got her first clue.
“I saw one little boy outside. I asked him if he saw Victory.  The boy told me that my child entered the compound but had not come out. I asked him which compound, he replied: “This big compound”.”
One of her neighbours later went into the compound and asked Ifeanyi if he was aware of the missing girl.

His response––“Must everybody participate in looking for her?” ––raised suspicion
“I never believed or imagined that my daughter’s corpse was lying in his room,” Mrs Nmezu said.
The search continued till 1 am when women had gathered in the house of the family to pray. The answer to the riddle of the missing girl came soon after.

When he noticed that people were not outside, Ifeanyi reportedly stuffed the corpse of his victim into a bag and carried it in a basin with other dirty items as waste to be thrown away. He was carrying the basin out when a local vigilance team accosted him.  The men on night watch wondered why the suspect should carry the load in the dead of night.

She continued her narration: “People said he was moving briskly and when the boys called him to bring the dirty items, he abandoned the basin and bag and fled.  The boys on duty alerted their members. One of them got to the bag, opened it and exclaimed that it was my daughter’s corpse.”
A man and woman ran to the house to alert the family.

“I thought my daughter was alive,” she said,  “I did not have strength again; but, my husband rushed out.” Indeed, it was her daughter, but alas, her corpse.
Two Police patrol vans in the vicinity at the time prevented the lynching of the suspect by the vigilance group. Policemen subsequently arrested and took him to Okporo Police Station.

For the hapless mother, the nightmare seemed to go on forever. “They asked him where he kept the parts of her body he cut.  He said that they were inside a Bournvita container with chemical. That was where he put my daughter’s breast, private part, tongue, eye, two fingers and the one he cut from her forehead.”

According to the distraught woman, the suspect told her husband he was not worthy to live, claiming he was pushed to do the dirty deed by his “master,” a certain Ugochukwu, who used to live in the same compound with him.
Ugochuckwu, who Mrs Nmezu alleged  “suddenly, became very rich,” lives in Eneka where he owns a block industry.

Members of the Nmezu family were mollified to hear that the case would be transferred to the SCIID, Port Harcourt, and hoped justice would be served.

That hope evaporated with the escape of the suspect.
“Only Johnbosco knows how Ifeanyi escaped,” Mrs Nmezu said, “Whether he disappeared, flew, ran or jumped. Only Johnbosco has the answer.”

She has a theory, however: “If a vigilance team without a gun could catch somebody and be able to hold the person till they handed him over to Okporo Police, and they finally handed him over to the SCIID, but surprisingly, he escaped, (then) something had transpired.”

She grew hysterical. “What do Police want me to do?  I don’t know.  Police should come and ask me how old I am.  Where will I bring another child to replace this one? Am I still a young mother? Where will I get another child to replace Victory?”

She delivered her next statement with vehemence: “They have a mind to allow Ifeanyi escape so that my daughter will go just like that?  God is watching them!  Victory, this little angel, this little virgin,  her blood will continue to follow each and every one of them!

“Look at how the entire neighbourhood rose to condemn the act. I did not call anybody to protest, but they organised themselves for that. If that star will go like that, as they think, Then, I will know that there is no God in heaven.

This God that created heaven and earth; this God that created Victory and made her what she was, will give Victory wings and swords from heaven to pursue them, to follow them,  to make sure they all pay; from their biggest boss to the lowest Johnbosco!”

She was equally worried about Police’s aloofness as per Ugochukwu who was indicted by Ifeanyi as the mastermind of the murder. “I don’t know why they have buried his name.  I suspect big foul play,” she alleged.

Mrs Nmezu wondered: “Is it not suspicious that it is at the SCIID that a murderer, a rapist; a boy that raped his own cousin, will escape from their custody? God will fight them.”
She concluded thus: “Government and Police authority should provide Ifeanyi.  He should come and pay for his deed.  I want Ifeanyi dead or alive.

Distraught father

Earlier, Dr Ernest Nmezuwuba, father of the deceased, told Saturday Sun what transpired at the SCIID.

“After taking the corpse to the SCIID with the suspect handcuffed, the Inspector that led me there said I should come and that they should officially hand this case over to the SCIID, which I followed up. Reaching there, I saw the DSP in charge of the place.  We explained to him what happened and the man shouted. He (DSP) called one Johnbosco to record everything and take statements. We were there with the suspect in handcuffs.

Meanwhile, at the ACIID, there was no light in the entire place. I wrote my statement with candle––imagine a whole State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department! Then, Johnbosco removed the handcuffs from the suspect’s hand, for him (suspect) to write his statement.

At a point, the boy (Dike) said he was thirsty and Johnbosco said I should buy pure water for him. I asked him, why would you ask me to buy water for a person that killed my daughter? Why would I buy water for a ritualist? I told Johnbosco that it was none of my business.”

He continued. “Some policemen were at the gate with guns, while we were at the charge room writing statement. After we finished writing our statements, Johnbosco called the IPO to take the suspect into the cell. The suspect was not handcuffed at that time.

“They did not walk up to a pole, when I heard, ‘hold am, hold am’. He has escaped. Whether he jumped the fence or not, I cannot say because the entire place was dark.  It was around 7.30 pm to 8 pm. I had told Johnbosco: “You know what you are doing.” The policemen came out with torchlight and checked under the cars parked there. Then, I saw the DCP––Deputy Commissioner of Police––and he said; what nonsense is this? He asked of Johnbosco and he was told Johnbosco was inside.

The DCP then said he should be handcuffed, both his hands and legs. He asked if he (Johnbosco) had ever seen where any policeman had removed handcuffs from the hands of an arrested ritualist. He ordered that Johnbosco be thrown into the cell and immediately radioed the CP.”

Dr Nmezu went on: “I cannot understand this country. This must be a planned game. I must fight it to the end. They have to provide that suspect. The Rivers State Police must provide him while Johnbosco should remain in detention.

This incident has proved the kind of country we are living in. Whatever happens in this particular matter, heaven will hear it. The whole world will hear it.”
He added: “This boy (suspect) is related to me. We are from the same village, and he killed my daughter inside his room. The landlord is my in-law and also his own in-law. The landlord, Pius Nwoko, was arrested and the same day, they released him (landlord) for N50, 000. Nwoko told me this.”

Police react

According to the State Commissioner of Police Zaki Ahmed,
“It was individual negligence that caused it.”He said: “The escape happened in the presence of the complainant, that is, the parent of the deceased. The boy (suspect) escaped under the cover of the night. But, we are making every effort, every move and by the grace of the Almighty God, within a short time, he will be arrested.

“We are not relenting. We know that this is a serious problem. It is too bad it happened. We have moved a lot of resources, both human and material resources, to ensure that the culprit is arrested. We call on the people to confide in us, if they have any useful information.”

Meanwhile, the state government has condemned the murder and escape of the suspect from Police custody.  The State Deputy Governor, Dr.  (Mrs.) Ipalibo Banigo, has described the incident as an embarrassment.
In the meantime, Johnbosco was arraigned on Thursday, on a two-count charge and later remanded in Prisons custody. His case has been adjourned till September 14, 2017.

Man attempts to use father, siblings, 5 friends for money ritual

The Police in Anambra have arrested a 26-year-old man, Chukwuemeka Okafor, for allegedly attempting to use his father, two siblings and five friends for money ritual.

The suspect, who hailed from Ifite-Awka in Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra, was arrested following information made available to the police by a vigilant resident of the community.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Garba Umar, who briefed newsmen in Amawbia on Thursday on the arrest of the suspect, said the father had innocently provided N100, 000 to his son unknown to him that the son had a devilish intention.

Umar said that the suspect lied to his father about a business which made him to raise the money for him believing that it was for a genuine venture.

He further said that after collecting the money, the suspect proceeded to the house of a native doctor to prepare a charm that would enable him to eliminate his father, two siblings and five of his friends.

He said that the suspect had confessed to the crime, and was assisting the police with useful information for further investigation.

The commissioner said the suspect would be charged to court after investigation.
He listed the items recovered from the suspect to include; eight photographs of the victims, including three members of the family and pictures of his five face book friends as well as the sum of N100,000.

The suspect told newsmen that he collected the N100, 000 from his father under the pretext that he would use the money to set up a business.

Okafor told reporters that he was roped into the act after he was defrauded of N400,000 by one of his friends who promised to take him to Dubai.

“Amidst these frustrations, I sought for the assistance of one Zaki who is very influential in the society and he told me that he made his money through money ritual.

“He encouraged me to join him in the ritual act after revealing the secret,” he said.
Okafor said he was warned not to reveal the secrets of the ritual to anybody otherwise his life would be terminated.

He regretted that he had no intention to join the evil act, but that he was pushed into it by the devil, adding that he got the picture of his friends from their facebook walls.
