PRESIDENCY FEEDS PUPILS WITH N3.7BN



The Presidency has so far released N3.77 billion for the feeding of 1, 287, 270 school children in nine states under its home grown school feeding programme.

The Senior Special Assistant to the Acting President on Media and Publicity, Laolu Akande, disclosed this in a statement yesterday.

Akande listed the benefiting states as Anambra, Enugu, Oyo, Osun, Ogun, Ebonyi, Zamfara, Delta and Abia.

He said the states had received various sums in tranches, while 14, 574 cooks were engaged in the communities where the schools are located.
 
He said the money “Is paid directly from the Federal Government’s coffers to the cooks, with a slight variation in Osun State where some of the food items like eggs are bought centrally by an aggregator.”
 
According to him, Anambra got a total of N693 million for 103,742 pupils; Enugu, N419m for 108,898 pupils; Oyo, N414m for 107,983 pupils; Osun, N767m for 151,438 pupils; Ogun, N880m for 231,660 pupils; Ebonyi, N344m for 163,137 pupils.
 
Akande said Zamfara, Delta and Abia States got N188m, N63m and N42m for 268,573, 90,523 and 61,316 pupils respectively.
