The
police in Nnewi are on the trail of a man who allegedly killed his pregnant
wife by hitting her with an iron rod and pouring acid on her.
On Friday, Sunday Eze , 33, of Obiofia Nnewichi, allegedly lured his estranged
wife, Ebere, 23, to follow him to inspect a plot of land he recently acquired.
But as they approached the purported property, Mr Eze pounced on Ebere and
poured acid on her.
A relative of the deceased woman who spoke to reporters said Ebere was
separated from her abusive husband and was staying at her father’s house. But
on Friday, Mr Eze visited and pleaded with Ebere to accompany him to see a plot
of land he recently acquired.
He allegedly left her for dead after attacking her with acid and forcing her to
drink some of the corrosive substance.
According to witnesses, Ebere’s scream alerted a team of policemen who were
passing by the area. She was subsequently taken to the Nnamdi Azikiwe
University Teaching Hospital.
She managed to recount her ordeal before she died.
The fugitive husband has allegedly denied Ebere’s relatives access to her son.
When Ebere relative tried to fetch him from school, the school authorities
denied them access claiming they had instruction from Mr Eze not to allow
anyone access to his son.
The son is still in the custody of the school authorities.
The police in Nnewi could not be reached for comments.
