Woman left half-blind, mouth melted after brutal acid attack by estranged husband

Atsede Nigussiem, 26, was attacked at home

A 26-year-old woman has been left with her mouth melted shut and half-blind after her estranged husband allegedly bathed her with acid.

According to reports, the incident happened in the Tigray area of Ethiopia.
On the fateful day, Atsede Nigussiem, was at home when she opened the door to find the man there.
He allegedly launched an attack with a corrosive substance that destroyed one of her eyes and ate through the skin on her head and legs, leaving her in agony.

Reports said Nigussiem’s five-year-old son was in the room sleeping.
“I don’t know why my husband did this. I was at my parents’ house late at night,” the 26-year-old who couldn’t speak wrote.

“I just opened the door and it happened. I’m heartbroken and in pain.”
Nigussiem is currently receiving treatment at Vejthani Hospital in Thailand.

The pair lost contact after he moved abroad for work, it was reported.
