Native doctors who double as ritualists, operating in
Ughelli and Issoko areas of Delta State are making fast money from the sale of
unclaimed corpses, LEADERSHIP investigations have revealed.
The native doctors, it was gathered, harvest vital organs of corpses, especially those of lunatics, abandoned in various places, which they sell to those in need of it, some of whom it was learnt, buy the parts to use for ritual purposes.
Their patrons, sources said, include those intending to travel abroad, commercial sex workers and job seekers.
Sources said the native doctors sell the pubic hair of the corpses at between N80,000 and N60,000 and also use the other parts to prepare a bathing solution for their patrons.
Reacting to the development, Police spokesperson in the state, DSP Celestina Kalu lamented that the activities of ritualists and native doctors who hide under the cover of politics has been posing serious threats to peace and security in the state. According to her, some persons who claimed to be native doctors but had been found wanting had been arrested in connection with the ritual activities while plain clothes policemen had been drafted to monitor activities of traditional medicine practitioners especially native doctors who have been allegedly involved in ritual activities, with a view to bringing them to book.
