FOR allegedly being in possession of fake Naira notes, a 26-year-old unemployed man, Kingsley Egwu, was on Friday hauled up before a Badagry Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State.
The accused, who resides at No 24 Joseph Dosu Way, Badagry, is facing a charge of being in possession of fake currency.
According to the prosecution, the accused was caught with three fake one thousand Naira notes at Calipso Hotel in Ibereko, Badagry.
Prosecutor Innocent Uko told the court that the accused was caught while using the notes to pay for a room.
“He put the fake notes in the middle of other genuine notes thinking that no one would notice it.
“The receptionist detected it and the police were notified immediately.”
The offence contravened Section 324 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Counsel to the accused, Mr Ahmed Abimbola, urged the court to grant him bail, saying he will not jump bail.
The Magistrate, Mr Abiodun Etti, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000 with a surety in like sum and adjourned the case to Oct. 7 for further hearing.
