The Edo State Police Command has arrested an 80-year-old
woman, identified as Comfort Izedomwen, for unlawful possession of 68 live
cartridges.
The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Chris Ezike, said
on Monday that Izedomwen was nabbed after her accomplice, one Stella Omobude,
was arrested with 32 live cartridges on October 8.
He said, “On October 8, 2015, the police arrested
one Stella Omobude, aged 48, a peddler of live cartridges to suspected robbers.
“Thirty-two live cartridges were recovered from
her. Her confessions led to the arrest of one Izedomwen, aged 80 years, with 68
live cartridges.”
The commissioner spoke while he paraded 71 other
suspected criminals at the state headquarters in Benin.
Izedomwen, however, claimed that she sold the
cartridges to hunters and private security operatives at the cost of N250 each.
“I sell to them at N250, but I don’t know what
they do with it; that is what I do for a living,” she said.
The command also paraded one Lucky Ameyi, said to
have been on the wanted list of the police for the kidnap and murder of a
lecturer in the Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Prof. Paul Erie.
