How conmen murdered ex-Customs officer, daughter in Lagos
LAGOS— Three persons have been arrested in connection with the murder of a 64-year‑old retired female Customs officer and her 10-year‑old daughter in Lagos. The victims were last seen on May 10, 2014.
Surprisingly, the mastermind of the murder was discovered to be an agent, who reportedly told policemen that he killed both mother and child in order to cart away the deceased’s N375 million realised from the sale of her property.
Vanguard was informed that an alarm was raised over the sudden disappearance of the retired Customs officer identified as Angela Uzo Kerry and her daughter, Obiajurum, last month.
Angela was said to have told one of her relatives that she was going for a prayer session at Sango Ota, Ogun State on May 10.
But apprehension reportedly set in after the relative visited Angela 10 days later, only to discover that her door was locked with her whereabouts unknown. Tension heightened after efforts to reach her through phone calls proved abortive.
Consequently, policemen at Oko‑Oba were contacted, following which investigation commenced. The policemen were said to have traced Angela’s Toyota car with number plate LND 554 AZ, which she drove that fateful day, to an uncompleted building around Alakuko area of Lagos, via its tracking device.
Police sources told Vanguard that two persons whose identities were given simply as Sholotan and Akinniyi were arrested in the uncompleted building.
Police sources said: “We first arrested Akinniyi who told us that Sholotan gave him the car to keep until he found a buyer. Thereafter, Sholotan was arrested and he took us to Sango, where the main suspect, Azeez, was arrested.
Suspect offers police bribe
“When we arrested Azzez, we asked him about Angela and her daughter’s whereabouts. Rather than offering us reasonable answer, he offered us a N9 million bribe to stop further investigations. But the offer was turned down.
“When we insisted on knowing where the victims were, he told us he had killed them. Azzez confessed that he deceived the Customs officer that he was a spiritualist. He said he told her that members of her family were planning to kill her and take over her property. In order to avert their motive, he asked the woman to bring documents of all her property for him to pray on them.
“But Azeez took the documents and sold three of the property located at Ajah, Omole and Oko‑Oba for N375 million without the woman’s knowledge. He said he killed them during their visit to Sango for the purported spiritual cleansing.”
The suspects, as gathered, have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation. Police sources at SARS hinted that part of the on‑going investigation will include locating where the bodies were buried.
Efforts to reach the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Ngozi Braide, failed as her phone rang without response.
