How Assassins Attacked Popular Young Shall Grow Boss, Killed Police Escort
Some suspected hired killers attacked the Managing Director, Young Shall Grow Motors Limited, Chief Vincent Obianodo, killing his driver and police escort.
PUNCH Metro learnt that Obianodo was shot in the arm during the attack.
A police source said the incident occurred in the FESTAC area of Lagos State on Tuesday night while Obianodo was returning from work. Our correspondent learnt that two of the attackers were killed after policemen engaged them in a gun duel.
The source said, “On Tuesday night, Obianodo was on his way back from work. A police corporal, Ngozi Chijioke, and another private guard were in the vehicle with him.
“When they reached 22 Road, FESTAC, the entire place was deserted. From nowhere a vehicle crossed Obianodo’s and some armed men opened fire on them. The policeman, who sat in front, was killed instantly while the driver was also killed.
“The assailants also shot Obianodo in the arm. However, the shooting attracted the attention of some policemen on patrol who rushed down to the scene and engaged the culprits in a gun duel.”
It was learnt that two of the attackers were killed while others escaped with bullet wounds.
The source told our correspondent that the assailants were probably hired killers.
He said, “The way the attackers operated seemed as if it was an assassination attempt. Most times, kidnappers do not shoot their victims while trying to abduct them. At most, they only kill the person’s guard and abduct the victim unharmed.“In this case, they shot him in the arm and would have killed him if the police had not arrived on time.”
Police Public Relations Officer, Ngozi Braide, confirmed the attack to our correspondent on the telephone, adding that efforts were on to apprehend the suspects.
“The attackers escaped with bullet wounds. We are therefore calling on hospitals to report cases of bullet injury to the nearest police station as this would increase our chances of arresting the culprits,” she said. Braide said she could not say for sure if the attack was a kidnap, robbery or assassination attempt

Former Sports Editor of Evening Times Diagnosed With Congestive Heart & Kidney Failure (PLEASE HELP ME)
Early this evening, I got a distressed voicemail from my terminally ill
friend and colleague, Rilwan Omosun: " Zuk please call me back. This is
urgent." Few minutes later, I called Rilwan (Real One).........
Rilwan Omosun was the Sports Editor of Evening Times, a subsidiary of Nigeria's
premiere daily newspaper, THE DAILY TIMES. In 1990 Rilwan relocated to United
States to seek further education and professional excellence. Eight years
later, he was diagnosed with kidney failure. His doctors placed him on a
specialized treatment. In 2000, Rilwan had a massive stroke that paralyzed his
left side. Three years after his stroke, he began permanent kidney dialyses
three times a week for the remainder of his life or until he is fortunate for a
transplant.
Five months ago, Rilwan was diagnosed with congestive heart failure. Doctors said his life may end next March. He has seven months to live. Two weeks ago, the roof of his roomy apartment in Maryland collapsed and the landlord refused to fix the leakage and collapse. Rilwan called to tell me he moved into Motel 6 and may not be able to pay the next few days hotel stay. He would move into the homeless shelter by tomorrow night but his health conditions may not tolerate the inconvenience of shelter living rules and regulations:" you must check into the homeless shelter at six in the evening and check out with all your luggages at 6a.m.
I am disabled. I cannot be dragging my bags from one street corner to the next. Zuks, I want to return home to die. I want to die with dignity. And dying amongst my people in Nigeria is more dignifying than dragging my bags allover Maryland. I need money to go back home to die. I dont need any dialyses in Nigeria... I just want to go Zuks"... I asked his permission to share this sad year jerking story with our dearest community and he obliged. I plead with you here to help donate anything to rehabilitate my friend and perhaps, offer him that peace he desires now. Contact Rilwan Omosun By mail jejeminimojoko@gmail.com.

Land Grabbers Beat Architect To Death Over N5,000
When Eniola Kiyesola left home for work on August 18, 2013, he bade his wife and three children farewell, saying he would return after the day’s work.
This was, however, not to be as the 36-year-old man was beaten to death by land grabbers few hours after he left his house.
PUNCH Metro learnt that Kiyesola had gone to a construction site to supervise an ongoing work when about five land grabbers stormed the site.
The culprits were said to have demanded N5, 000 from Kiyesola, adding that if he did not pay them, they would prevent labourers from working.
A relative of the deceased, Mr Sola Solebo, said, “On that day, Kiyesola went to supervise construction at the site.
“After sometime, about five hoodlums from Omo Ebi Bagidan Village, led by one Babu and Kazeem, stormed the site and demanded money.
“Kiyesola reminded them that the owner of the property had given them money when the foundation of the building was being laid.
“The land grabbers then demanded N5, 000 so that they would leave. However, Kiyesola told them that he could not give them any money and told them to come back when the owner of the property was around.
“There was an exchange of words and the hoodlums picked up iron rods and beat him up.”
A labourer, Yusuf Olatundun, who claimed to be an eyewitness, said the culprits beat Kiyesola for over an hour.
Olatundun, a bricklayer, said, “About 15 of us were working on the site when those land grabbers came. The land grabbers said they had an axe to grind with the architect. Some of us rushed to Ijede Police Division to report the matter.
“After beating Kiyesola for over an hour, he collapsed. When he became unconscious, the guys fled. When the police arrived we rushed Kiyesola to General Hospital, Ijede where he was confirmed dead.”
PUNCH Metro learnt that the traditional leader of Omo Ebi Bagidan Village, Sunday Basorun, who was alleged to have employed the culprits to collect land dues for him, had been arrested.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Ngozi Braide, said, “The matter has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba.”
Braide added that efforts were on to arrest the fleeing culprits.
